| How to get to Nicaragua |
The capital Managua has a modern airport where you can fly to directly, but the flights to Nicaragua can be a little expensive. It is cheaper to fly to San José ( Costa Rica) and then take a bus (TICA BUS http://www.ticabus.com/ 12.5 USD,8 hours.) to Nicaragua. Another possibility is to fly to Guatemala City and take a bus to Nicaragua ( TICA BUS, 39USD, 18 hours). Also, you can arrive from Mexico, going to Guatemala by bus, and from Guatemala to Nicaragua by Ticabus.

| How to get to El Zopilote? |
1. If you come by bus to Managua, Granada, San Juan del Sur or to Peñas Blancas (the border), your destination will most likely be the city of Rivas.
2. From here, you can take a taxi (10 córdobas) to the port of San Jorge (20 minutes). The taxis can be found in the bus terminal and you shouldn't have to look for them: they will offer you their services as soon as you get off the bus.
3. In San Jorge, you can take a boat to the city of Moyogalpa (1 hour). You can take a wooden boat (30 cordobas) or the ferry (40-60 cordobas). You can pay on the boat. If you are traveling in your own vehicle and want to bring it to the island, you have to reserve your place on the ferry. For more information, you can call 278-8190.

4. In Moyogalpa you can take the bus for Mérida or the bus to Balgüe (20 córdobas). Both pass through Santa Cruz and the trip takes 2 hours. If you take the bus to Mérida, ask them to let you off in Santa Cruz and from there, walk 300 meters in the direction of Balgüe until you find the EL ZOPILOTE sign on your right. Recently, very near the sign we park our BUSHOP, which is a little farm-shop inside a American School bus ( there is a photo down here on the left ): is impossible to miss, really. If you take the bus for Balgüe, ask them to let you off in El Madroñal where you'll find the sign for EL ZOPILOTE. From the sign, walk up the volcano for 10 minutes following the EL ZOPILOTE markers. If you plan to arrive at night, it is recommended that you bring a flashlight. If you do not have one, do not be afraid to ask the locals for help. Please take into account the the bus service is limited on Sundays. Also, you can hire a taxi in Moyogalpa to take you directly to EL ZOPILOTE (1 hour). The taxis offer their services at the exit of the dock and you can negociate the price depending on the number of people and the destination of each one. As a reference, the trip for one person runs around $25 U.S.D. *map

Has your 3 month visa for Central America already expired? Do you want to stay longer?
Since 2006, all tourists have 3 months to visit 4 countries in Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua). However, there is a quick and cheap way to get 3 more months. When the 3 months have expired, you only need to go to the southern border of Nicaragua (Penas Blancas) and leave the country, entering Costa Rica. You can immediately return to Nicaragua, at which point your visa is automatically renewed for 3 more months. It costs $5 U.S.D. +$1 U.S.D. (government tax) to leave Nicaragua, and $12 U.S.D. in order to enter again. Costa Rica doesn't charge anything to enter or exit the country.
